The short answer
Kyra is built to work offline: trade logging, history browsing, pattern detection, and the pre-trade checklist run locally on the iPhone. Optional private iCloud sync is the exception, because syncing between devices needs a network. App Store downloads and software updates need one too. The journal itself does not require a Kyra account or a Kyra-operated trade-history server.
What “offline” actually means
“Offline” is often used to mean that an app has a local cache. That is a weaker promise than a local-first journal. The practical question is whether the core record and analysis still work when the network is unavailable.
| Task | Works offline? | What happens |
|---|---|---|
| Log a completed trade | Yes | The entry is written to the local database on the iPhone. |
| Browse history and P/L | Yes | Existing entries are queried locally. |
| Run pattern analysis | Yes | Kyra's statistical analysis runs on the device. |
| Sync to another device | Only when connected | Optional iCloud sync uses Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. |
| Install an update | No | The App Store needs network access. |
Offline does not mean “never sync”
There is a real choice here. Leave iCloud sync off and your trade history remains on the device you logged it on. Turn it on and the history can replicate through your personal iCloud account, which is useful when you replace an iPhone. The sync identity is Apple’s; there is no separate Kyra login.
That trade-off is why the honest description is on-device with optional private iCloud sync, not “nothing ever touches a network.” The architecture is visible, and the choice belongs to the trader.
Who this setup fits
- Traders who want their journal to work on a flight, in a low-signal room, or during a disconnected review session.
- Traders who do not want to create another account or put trade history into a third-party backend.
- Traders who are comfortable entering completed trades themselves and choosing whether iCloud sync is worth the recovery benefit.
Where Kyra stops
An offline-first architecture has deliberate limits. Kyra is iPhone-only, does not connect to a broker for live auto-sync, and does not provide a web dashboard. It is a record and analysis tool for your own completed trades, not a broker, signal service, or recommendation engine.
If automatic broker import or browser access is your first requirement, a cloud-connected journal may fit better. If private local analysis and a no-account setup matter more, see why Kyra is on-device and the full FAQ.
